Announcing Friends of the White Deer – Website Launch

Friends of the White Deer
Greetings from inside the SEOigloo!
We are very proud tonight, having just launched a website for a very worthy organization that is also quite dear to our hearts. Readers of the SEOigloo Blog may have bumped into our posts during the past year regarding a citizen effort to save the beautiful Fallow and Axis Deer of the Point Reyes National Seashore from inhumane extermination. As of this evening, we’ve taken our message online with FOTWD.org.
The function of this website is fairly simple – to present the basic facts of the deer’s history in the Park, and the strong local position that these wonderful creatures need to be protected. Having a www means that everyone involved in Friends of the White Deer will have a place on the Internet that they can send people to, whether those people are family, friends, or members of the media. The website not only summarizes the controversy of the deer, but also makes it clear that the local citizens’ position is supported by respected organizations such as The Humane Society, In Defense of Animals, and WildCare. For any organization wishing to present their mission to the public, even a simple website puts an official stamp on the group’s platform. A website acts as a continuous advertisement of the organization’s cause and efforts.
In the case of this website, Friends of the White Deer can now easily take donations online and receive helpful comments and questions from visitors via a simple form. A site like this can be a workhorse for a group; it sits there all day and all night answering visitors’ questions while group members are at work, fixing dinner or sleeping. A site like this enables the benefits of Social Media with Tell A Friend Scripts and social bookmarking widgets. This can be a fantastic way to let users become your ‘evangelists’, creating buzz about your group on their own time, voluntarily, just because they like what you stand for.
A photography contest for the best photo of a fallow or axis deer is being announced on the site, with an appealing first prize of $500.00. Exciting features like this can cause a stir in the community both on-line an offline, and a website makes it so easy to quickly make announcements like this to everybody at the same time. No more spending hours sending out emails to all your members!
A section of the site is devoted entirely to onsite articles written by various people within the group, as well as links to all media coverage (blogs, newspapers) of the deer issue. A What You Can Do page provides addresses of elected officials and media, as well as other suggestions for what will be most helpful to the effort of saving the deer. Features like these keep everyone involved current with latest news and specific needs the group may have.
We’ve kept things very spare with this website, with the intention of expanding over time. If you belong to any type of organization, you may find it useful to visit FOTWD.org to see how basic and uncluttered it is. We believe that there are hundreds of excellent groups that could benefit from the overall organization having a website provides. It puts all your cards on the table and all your little ducks in a row.
My husband and I are very honored to be associated with the Friends of the White Deer, and developing the site has been a pure pleasure. We hope you’ll take a moment to visit this new website, and that if you know someone who might be interested in the efforts going on in Marin County, California, you will share this site with them.
