There’s a Nexus One In The Igloo Now…
Tuesday 19 Jan 2010
And so, it came, in a nondescript brown parcel, hailing from Houston, Texas…

Much smaller than a bread box, but oh-so-handsomely packaged in a crisp, white carton…

Ah, yes, our Nexus One has arrived!

Note the cute little bot on the carrying case. Note that great big screen on that little tiny phone. And, if this were a video instead of a still shot, you could note my little hands trembling with excitement.
No doubt, every one of you reading this post has owned a cell phone since you learned to ride a bike, but the Nexus One represents my debut in the Mobile world. Google has the honor of hosting my first cell phone call, my first text message and my first foray onto the web on a device so wee, it looks like a trinket or a toy.
Oh, it’s fun, but this is no game for us. The purchase of the Nexus One represents the most important acquisition Solas Web Design will make in 2010, because this will be our entrance into Mobile – that component of Local that is growing in importance every day. We’re going to learn how to design for Mobile; we’re going to work to understand how advertising is transitioning into a powerful Mobile force; we’re going to walk the walk of a life in which critical Local decisions are enabled via a device that will help us find places, read reviews, make calls and do business on the road. And, we will glean from this unfolding experience knowledge which we will one day be able to put at the service of our valued clients for whom Local/Mobile will become more important with each passing year.
Word has it that Mobile will replace desktop usage in 5 years’ time. By then, I hope we’ll be pretty good at fiddling with this quaint little object called a cell phone. Today’s schedule includes a trip to our local T-Mobile shop. For right now, the Nexus One is charging…

hahaha, enjoyable post and I hope that it is a great venture.
Thanks, Mike!
The phone connected a couple of hours ago and it is absolutely amazing. Granted, I have nothing to compare it to, but we are blown away by it. The browser is great, the camera is awesome, the actual phone works super…everything is really good so far. We are totally excited!

Congrats Miriam. I have had the G1 and now I am on the Android. I am a big fan of these phones. Music, Navigation, Internet, Texting, Email all on one device!
My original purchase was for exactly the reason you mentioned. To better understand how to design for the mobile web. At least that’s what i told my wife
Wonderful, well designed, well developed piece about your new mobile phone. Congrats, Miriam. I bet you will be doing bang up work on designing for the mobile world in short order.
Thank you so much, Tim! You and I will hopefully get to have some really great conversations about Mobile design. It’s exciting to me that you have already dug deeply into this field. Super! Thanks for taking the time to say hello.
