Glad you liked this one, David!

Right - in the second scenario, where it's coming from a third party, I can see NO problem with that.

It's the first scenario I'm just not sure about because of things I've seen in the organic SERPs in the past. I mean, if you bought 40 domains and pointed links from them to mywebsite.com, just for that purpose, Google has historically had a problem with that. So, it's the organic side I'm concerned with. For Local, it seems like a very rich source of citations, with little danger of there being a problem.

I'm glad to get your opinion on this, as ever!

Miriam, this is a FANTASTIC post. I've noticed the exact same thing but it never occurred to me to blog about it :)

Your point about splitting content up on multiple websites is SO interesting. It IS smart business, and good for Google's Local algo, but bad for the organic algo. I think it's going to be awfully hard for Local to filter out sites published by the same company...especially if they're hosted on different servers, etc.

Another scenario is that a ton of sites for DIFFERENT agents are produced by the same company (I'm thinking someone like ListingProducer in this case)...there's no reason those should all be filtered...
