Great post - I really appreciate that you talk about the importance of storytelling and creating visual images in marketing copy. You have to appeal to the senses!

Just one thing I'm confused about though (less marketing and more Amazon related). It's not "Amazon" that sells the products, it's Habitant that created the account on Amazon and then sells their product through the site. In other words, the same people are responsible for both product descriptions. Right?

It's been awhile since I've sold anything through Amazon so maybe things have changed. Just wondering:)

[...] I ask pardon for the sarcasm contained in the following post, but I feel the need to let out a little roar. Chances are, you’ve heard of the Vermont Country Store, that popular old-timey business that sells everything from Habitant Pea Soup to retro candy to alarming implements designed for trimming one’s nose hair. They’ve positioned themselves as America’s best-known general store, and they’ve won me as a repeat customer because they are literally the last place I can find in the wide world selling cotton knee highs, but - OH MY STARS - they are driving me bananas with their marketing efforts.
That's great, Christina!
I can really see that making your site even better.

Your challenge is a very specific one, and might be worth a blog post of its own. Writing web copy for ESL readers is truly a niche service. You do a beautiful job of this by keeping the language simple, brief and effective. So, for the demographic of users who are using your website to improve their English skills and understanding of American culture, you are already offering perfect content.

But, for sponsors, teachers, webmasters and a host of other seekers, the addition of testimonials and history will be welcome!

Good luck with this!

Miriam--I've got to start working on my adjectives so I won't be a lazy competitor! You're just not going to let us readers slack off, are you? Now, I'm thinking that I need to get testimonials, add lesson suggestions, and write a short history about the development of my website.

Thanks for the wonderful suggestions and examples. I've added your suggestions to my list of 'must-do things.'

Keep the good suggestions coming.
